The Katy Area Retired Educators (KARE) group is kicking its 26th year with its signature “Hooky Day” event, to recruit new members and for all returning members to reunite and prepare for another great year together. Any TRS (Teacher Retirement System) retiree is invited to attend the event on August 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Community Rooms A&B at Legacy Stadium, 1830 Katyland Drive in Katy.

Free refreshments, door prizes, and lots of fun will be provided. Hooky Day is an opportunity to learn about the organization, its mission and activities, and its committees.

KARE’s theme for the coming year is “Retirement in Full Bloom.” Upcoming programs and speakers include the legislative candidate forum, “Advantages and Cautions about AI,” “Home Organization: Tips from the Container Store,” “Patriotic Concert and Veteran’s Day Tribute,” a holiday luncheon and Show Choir Concert at Brookwood, and “Landscaping Tips,” and more.

The organization is also planning several excursions for members in the coming months:

· October 28: a trip to the Madisonville Christmas Store for lunch and shopping.

· March 10: a jaunt to Galveston for a tour of the Opera House, with lunch and shopping on the Strand.

· March 31: a journey to Austin for the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) Day at the Capital. The group will take a charter bus to travel together, visit with legislators, and enjoy a picnic with TRTA members across Texas.
