The Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Katy, is launching a special tribute to honor the brave men and women who have served or are currently serving in the nation’s military.
The Hometown Heroes Banner Program will feature colorful street banners along George Bush Drive near Katy Heritage Park and the VFW Hall, displaying the names, photos, and branches of service of Katy’s local heroes.
“It’s our way of saying thank you to those who sacrificed for our freedom,” said the chamber in its July 28 Facebook post.
At the April 14 meeting of Katy’s city council, members unanimously approved a proposal from the chamber which would place the banners honoring veterans from the City of Katy who have been nominated and approved. The banners will be installed on the light poles along the drive by City of Katy employees. Chamber Vice President Adrienne Davitz said that local sponsors would provide financial help for families who could not afford the banner on their own, but that sponsors would not have logos on the banners. The banners would be on display for six months to a year, Davitz said at the meeting.
Nominees must be veterans and active-duty military who are or were residents of the City of Katy. Nominate a hero at https://loom.ly/MX0YjUs. Businesses may sponsor a banner at https://loom.ly/jUNxaYo.
