The City of Katy’s city council met in special session on Monday, December 2, with only one item on the agenda: to consider reinstatement of former employee Blanca Charles. Fewer than ten people were in attendance. City Administrator Byron Hebert was not present.
After the meeting was convened, the council immediately went into closed executive session to consult with an attorney and to hold a private hearing as requested by Charles.
When the council appeared in open meeting after the one-hour closed session, councilmembers voted 5 to 0 to uphold Interim Police Chief Bryon Woytek’s decision to terminate her employment. There were no other details about the reason for her termination.
Blanca F. Charles was employed as a police officer at the City of Katy in 2022 and had an annual salary of $60,093 according to public records listed at govsalaries.com.
