KATY, TX [August 17, 2026] – Katy ISD earned a B/88 rating from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) during the 2025–2026 accountability cycle, placing Katy ISD as the top-performing large school district in the state. Districts earn a "B" (80–89) for recognized performance when they serve many students well, encouraging high academic achievement and/or appropriate academic growth for most students, according to the TEA website. The district received “B” grades in each of four major categories: student achievement, school progress, academic growth, and “closing the gaps.”
It is the fourth consecutive cycle in which KISD has earned a “B” rating, with scores of B/87 in 2025-2026 and 2024-2025 and a B/86 in 2023-2024. KISD’s last “A” rating was in 2019, according to the district website at https://www.katyisd.org/research-assessment-and-accountability/accountability.
In STAAR test approaches, 86 per cent of KISD students were rated as “approaches standards,” while 60 per cent were ranked as “meets standards” and 41 per cent were ranked as “masters standards.”
The accountability ratings were released in mid-August. Katy ISD school board trustees reviewed the results during the Aug. 17 board work study meeting, celebrating another strong showing in the district’s academic achievement. “The rating demonstrates strong performance on state assessments across Katy ISD,” a district spokesperson said following the meeting.
This spring, students outperformed their peers across Texas at the “Meets” level by:
· 17 points above the state average in math
· 16 points above the state average in reading/English
· 17 points above the state average in science
· 19 points above the state average in social studies
“We are incredibly proud of our students and educators,” Katy ISD Superintendent Ken Gregorski said. “Our students continue to achieve at a high level, outperforming their peers across Texas. While there is always more work to do, these results reflect the excellence in action happening in classrooms every day and the strong foundation our students are building for continued success.”
During the presentation to the school board, district leaders emphasized that improvement remains a key priority. Through data-driven analysis at both the campus and district levels, educators continue identifying areas where students need additional support. In the latest accountability ratings, 62 Katy ISD campuses earned A or B ratings. More campuses earned “A” ratings this year (42) than in the previous cycle (37), but “B”-rated campuses fell from 24 to 20. “C” rated campuses remained unchanged at ten, and “D” rated schools increased from three to four. There were no “F”-rated schools.
