Katy Independent School District announced the appointments of two new principals to the district’s administrative staff in a December 12 press release.
Miranda Cummings, now an assistant principal at McElwain Elementary, will be the new principal of Mayde Creek Elementary at 2698 Greenhouse Road in Houston, effective January 27, 2025.
With a passion for student success and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment, Cummings is eager to lead the school into its next chapter.
“It is truly an honor to be named principal of Mayde Creek Elementary, and I look forward to working with the teachers and staff to create a culture where our students grow and thrive,” she shared.
Cummings brings over 20 years of educational experience, having served in roles as a classroom teacher, instructional specialist, and campus administrator. She holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston.
"With her extensive leadership experience, Ms. Cummings is well-equipped to guide the young scholars at Mayde Creek Elementary," said Ken Gregorski, Katy ISD Superintendent. "I look forward to seeing the strong culture of achievement she will continue to build and nurture there."
The campus’ current principal, Felicia Ashabranner, has been named the principal at Alfred and Ann Boudny Elementary, which is currently under construction in the Elyson area.
Krista Gillaspia has been selected as the new principal at Nottingham Country Elementary at 20500 Kingsland Blvd. in Katy.
“I am thrilled to be back at Nottingham Country as principal and I look forward to leading the students and staff,” said Gillaspia. “I am excited to rekindle old relationships and foster new ones with students, staff and families to nurture and lead our young Knights on their path to excellence."
In her nearly 20-year career in education, Gillaspia has served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. She was also named the district’s Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year for 2023. She holds a Master of Science in Educational Management from the University of Houston Clear Lake and a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences from The University of Texas at Austin.
“Mrs. Gillaspia is an experienced leader who will build upon the culture of student and staff achievement at Nottingham,” said Gregorski. “I anticipate that she will continue the long legacy of strong leadership there and I look forward to seeing the positive impact she will make."
Currently, Gillaspia serves as an assistant principal at Hayes Elementary and will assume her new position on January 6, 2025. Nottingham Country’s current principal, Tracy Stroud, will be moving to a new position in district administration.
