Indivisible Katy held a “Labor Day: Workers Over Billionaires” community rally on September 1 at I-10 Frontage Rd. at Westgreen Blvd. in Katy, with over 60 local protestors brandishing home-made signs at the intersection, despite being doused by sprinklers half-way through the one-hour demonstration.

Launched by the May Day Strong Coalition, the “Labor Day: Workers Over Billionaires” initiative was designed to be a national day of action in support of America’s labor force and working families. Over 1,000 rallies were scheduled nationwide on September 1, including several in the Greater Houston and Katy areas.

“Building on the success of national community mobilizations in 2025 – Hands Off, May Day, No Kings, and Good Trouble – working people will come together on Labor Day to demand more investment in our communities: healthcare for all, affordable housing, fully funded public schools, and to stand up for the rights of America’s workers, seniors, children, persons with disabilities, immigrants, and BIPOC communities,” a spokesperson for the coalition told the Katy Times in an email prior to the event. “In 2025, federal and state leaders have made massive cutbacks to vital healthcare, education and food programs -- all to give $1 TRILLION to the richest 1% of Americans and add more than $5 trillion in federal debt. Millions of workers and industries are facing job layoffs and financial hardship, including farming, transportation, manufacturing, healthcare, and public education. Millions of children and families will lose access to critical services through Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, SNAP, public education, the Veterans Administration, and numerous federal and state programs.”

“Indivisible Katy stands with community organizations including 50501, Common Cause, Public Citizen and Texas AFL-CIO to support the ‘Labor Day: Workers Over Billionaires’ initiative and stand up for our workers and our communities,” the statement said.
