The Memorial Municipal Utility District has named one of its water plants in honor of B. E. “Dusty” Lane, the MUD announced in a September 29 email to the Katy Times. The MUD provides water and sewer services to an area generally bounded by Mason Road, Highland Knolls Drive, and Westgreen Boulevard. The plant named for Lane is located on Park Timbers Lane in Katy.
Lane was a long-time consultant to the district as an employee of Si Environmental, the district’s operator. He was not only an asset to the district but spent extra time on resident problems, said a MUD spokesperson. Lane was also a consultant to numerous other municipal utility districts in the area. He lived in Rosenberg before retiring and spent his retirement years in Canyon Lake, Texas. Lane passed away in February 2025.
