The race for the three open seats on Katy ISD’s board of trustees is heating up even more.

As of January 26, two additional candidates have filed for position five, currently held by Mary Ellen Cuzela, who is up for re-election:

· Caleb Silverio, a 14-year resident of the district, who lists his occupation as sales lead/college student

· Sean Hesterly, a teacher who has lived in the district for 38 years

Katy ISD will hold a general election on May 2, 2026, with three board members facing re-election. Trustee positions 3, 4 and 5 will be on the ballot to serve a three-year term. Position 3 is currently held by former teacher Amy Thieme; Position 4 is now held by Morgan Calhoun, a community volunteer; and Position 5 is currently held by Cuzela, a former software consultant and businesswoman. All three have served since 2023. None had filed for a place on the ballot as of press time for this issue of the Katy Times.

Applications close on February 13.
