Katy ISD tennis athletes delivered standout performances at the UIL Class 6A State Tennis Championships, highlighted by Seven Lakes High School’s Allan Xu and Matei Calin capturing the boys doubles state championship at the Northside Tennis Center in Helotes.

Xu and Calin defeated players from Strake Jesuit to claim the gold medal and cement Seven Lakes’ place among the state’s premier tennis programs.

The championship marked another milestone in an extraordinary high school career for Allan Xu, who concluded his time at Seven Lakes as a four-time Region III champion, four-time state qualifier and two-time state gold medalist. Xu also helped lead the Spartans to two appearances at the UIL Team Tennis State Tournament.

Seven Lakes continued its strong showing as Aiden Xu earned the silver medal in the boys singles competition, finishing as the UIL 6A state runner-up.

Tompkins High School also reached the podium as Rahul Aduru and Remi Dechans secured a third-place finish in mixed doubles competition.

“These student-athletes competed with incredible composure, discipline and determination against the best players in Texas,” Katy ISD Executive Director of Athletics Lance Carter said. “Winning a state championship and earning multiple podium finishes at the UIL State Tournament is an outstanding accomplishment and a reflection of the hard work these athletes, coaches and families have invested throughout the year.”

The performances capped another successful season for Katy ISD tennis programs, which continue to win at the highest levels across the state, the district said in its May 22 press release.
