The City of Katy will convene public hearings and meetings on September 22 to adopt the proposed tax rate and proposed budget, officials said at the September 8 meeting of the city council. The meetings will be held during the regular council meeting on September 22 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 901 Avenue C in Katy.

A special use permit for “land use only” was approved unanimously by council for the Apostolic Church LAWNA Katy at 5038 East Fifth Street. The SUP is for “land use only” and the church will still have to comply with the regular permitting process and obtain a certificate of occupancy, city planner Rachel Lazo said. Denial of the SUP had previously been recommended by the City Planning & Zoning Commission due to the institution’s failure to obtain a certificate of occupancy, she said.

In other action, council:

· Approved emergency repairs for water well 8 at Water Plant No. 6 at 27515 Highway Blvd. The city was prepared for the recent equipment failure at the facility since it had pre-purchased well pumping equipment in the amount of $169,593.00, city engineer David Kasper said.

· Appointed Olson & Olson, LLP as City Attorney for the City of Katy.

Mayor Thiele also affirmed the week of September 17-23 as “Constitution Week,” presenting a proclamation to the Star of Destiny Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
