Sidewalks 4 Precinct 4, a project of Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones, has delivered more than 22 miles of sidewalks in the area served by Katy ISD since the project began in 2024.

In a commitment to continued walkability, accessibility, and neighborhood safety, Briones and the Precinct 4 team have announced Phase 2 of the program. Phase 1 of the program added 50 miles of new sidewalks throughout Precinct 4 in just one year.

With a $20 million investment in 2024-2025 and $16 million in 2025-2026, the program is connecting families to schools, parks, hospitals, transit stops, places of worship, and shopping centers.

Sidewalks 4 Precinct 4 utilizes data-driven analysis to identify sidewalk gaps and prioritize areas with the greatest need, ensuring that investments directly improve residents’ daily lives.

Construction is rolled out in phases, with each sidewalk segment taking approximately four to eight weeks to complete. Multiple crews work across the precinct to accelerate progress. For 2025–26 projects, design will begin in Fall 2025, with construction scheduled to start between Winter 2025 and Fall 2026.

Residents of Harris County Precinct 4 may request a sidewalk in their area by taking the precinct’s survey at https://ow.ly/B4YL50WJ0n1. The survey closes on September 12.

Many projects are suggested by constituents during town halls, through interactions with the precinct’s Community Assistance Department, or submitted through the “Call for Projects” program. The requests are evaluated alongside all other possible projects.

The precinct has also completed an analysis examining the feasibility of sidewalk projects across the Precinct and is recommending projects that could be done in the short term. Short-term projects are identified as projects that do not require additional rights-of-way, utility relocation, or compound drainage issues. Consideration will be given to projects that connect highly used bus stops, parks, hospitals, healthcare providers, high pedestrian areas/shopping centers, and other key locations.

The Precinct 4 team is committed to keeping residents informed through regular community outreach and engagement at every stage of the process, according to its website.
