Katy Independent School District’s board of trustees met for a work-study session on April 13, twice going into closed session – first for Superintendent Ken Gregorski’s annual evaluation and contract review, and then for a second time, to consult with the district’s attorney and to review a safety/security update.

District officials did not comment on Gregorski’s review or contract. Board member Mary Ellen Cuzela had posted details of the superintendent’s contract on social media prior to the meeting, including his base salary and items for which he is reimbursed.

The board heard from Esperanza Rios, district director of budget and treasury, who reported a budget amendment increasing revenues in the amount of $9, 857,380 due to the recertification of preliminary property values from the state comptroller’s office and new TEA methodology. CFO Chris Smith that the district is conservative when estimating these numbers and that actuals came in better than expected.

New instructional materials for the 2026-2027 school year were also discussed. The materials were selected based on feedback from teachers and representatives from every campus, district leaders and community input, officials said. Materials were made available for public display January through March. New materials include K-12 math and materials for new courses in AP cybersecurity AP networking, business management and AP physics C.

The next regular board meeting was scheduled for April 10, after the Katy Times went to press for this issue.

Future board meetings will be held:

· Work study meeting, May 4

· Regular board meeting, May 11
