‘Texas High School Coaches Day’ celebrates lasting impact of coaches on students and communities

The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) announced on November 3 the celebration of Texas High School Coaches Day on Friday, November 7, a day officially recognized by Texas Senate Concurrent Resolution 38. This annual observance honors the unwavering dedication, leadership, and service of high school and middle school coaches across the Lone Star State.

“Texas High School Coaches Day is more than a symbolic gesture—it’s a heartfelt recognition of the vital role coaches play in shaping the lives of student-athletes,” a spokesperson for THSCA said in a press release. “From the locker room to the classroom and beyond, coaches serve as mentors, motivators, and role models, instilling values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance that last a lifetime.”

“Coaches are the heartbeat of our schools and communities,” said Joe Martin, Executive Director of the THSCA. “They don’t just teach the game—they teach life. Texas High School Coaches Day is a chance to honor the men and women who dedicate themselves to building character, inspiring excellence, and guiding young people toward success on and off the field.”

The THSCA is leading this year’s celebration by encouraging schools, communities, and student-athletes to show appreciation for their coaches through social media tributes, school events, and personal messages of thanks throughout the week. Many professional athletes who played high school sports in Texas have provided videos expressing their gratitude for the impact coaches have had on their lives. The day also serves as a reminder of the broader impact coaches have—not just in wins and losses, but in the lives they help shape.

“The one thing that I appreciate most is the attitude, the care, the love that these coaches have for high school kids,” said Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver and Rockwall High School alum. “They are second to none.”
