Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Katy has increased capacity to care for more patients following a hospital expansion. The hospital has opened a new unit of 15 private patient beds during a grand opening celebration on July 16, bringing its total bed count to 75. Officials said that it is the third expansion for the facility. Located at 23331 Grand Reserve Parkway in Katy.
“We aren’t simply adding more space to our hospital,” said Nick Hardin, CEO of Encompass Health Katy. “We are investing in our community and its people. We can now say ‘yes’ to more patients trying to recover from a traumatic event.”
Encompass Health Katy serves patients recovering from debilitating illnesses and injuries, including stroke and other neurological conditions, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions. The hospital provides physical, occupational and speech therapies to help patients restore function and improve quality of life.
“When you watch a patient recovering from a stroke or brain injury learn to walk or talk again, you understand the healing that is possible when the right healthcare services are made available,” said Dr. Samuel Kim, hospital medical director. “Now, more patients will have the option for a stronger recovery.”
The expansion makes Encompass Health Katy the largest freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital in West Houston. Construction on the $15 million expansion started in January, Hardin said. Rooms were built by the Blox company of Birmingham, AL, which constructs modular pre-fabricated rooms that can be dropped into place immediately, according to its website. Working with Blox meant that the new rooms could be ready in six to 12 months, Hardin said, compared to twice that amount of time for conventional construction.
Encompass Health Katy initially opened in 2019 and has served approximately 9,000 patients in its seven years. One of nine Encompass Health facilities in the greater Houston area, the Katy location serves an area from Memorial City west to Schulenberg and from Bellville to Eagle Lake, officials said. The Katy facility employs 128 physicians and a total of 300 employees and offers expertise in many different areas, including cardiovascular care, neurology, nephrology, pain management and other specialties.
