On January 8, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., encouraged Texans to participate in the VLB's campaign to send Valentines cards to the veterans who reside in Texas' ten state veteran’s homes. “The Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the VLB urge Texans to take part in this mission to show these courageous men and women that they are valued in their communities,” the press release said.
"We are the land of the free because of the brave,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “This Valentine's Day, I encourage Texans to show appreciation for our Veterans by sending cards to our ten Texas state veterans’ homes. Anyone can send a card through the VLB's Valentines for Vets campaign, including schoolchildren, co-workers, families, and friends. Each Valentine sent will remind our heroes that their courageous sacrifices will never be forgotten."
Texans interested in participating can mail Valentines to any of the ten state veterans’ homes. The veterans’ home closest to the Katy area is the Richard A.
