Katy kept up its unbeaten start to district by beating Morton Ranch on Tuesday, while Tompkins and Paetow bounced back from losses to get back in the win column and Cinco Ranch won its third straight.

Cinco keeps winning streak going

Cinco Ranch won its third straight game on Tuesday, beating Morton Ranch 4-2 with strong pitching and a balanced offense to improve to 12-5-3 on the season and 3-3 in district play. The Cougars got big games from Lucas Franco who had an RBI and two runs along with Luis Gomez and Paul Acosta, who added RBIs in the win, while Ethan Muniz got the start on the mound and pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven and walking two.

Morton Ranch was the team to strike first, as Jerry Gutierrez hit an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to break up the deadlock, but Cinco answered right back in the top of the sixth. Gomez tied the game on an RBI single and Acosta gave the Cougars the lead with a 1-run double. But Morton Ranch came back to tie it in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Zane Heiliger. The game went to extra innings and Cinco won it in the eighth, Franco broke the tie up with a 1-run single and Cinco scored another on a wild pitch to go up two. Thomas Guy pitched a clean bottom of the eighth to secure the win.

Gutierrez and Heiliger had the two RBIs for Morton Ranch and Heiliger had a strong day on the mound as well, pitching seven innings and allowing no earned runs on five hits while striking out five and walking three. Morton Ranch fell to 6-14-1 overall and 0-6 in district with the loss.

Tompkins outlasts Seven Lakes

Tompkins came out on top against Seven Lakes in a pitchers duel on Tuesday, beating the Falcons 3-1 behind a big effort from Chase Simon on the mound. The junior allowed no earned runs on five hits, striking out five without giving up a walk in the win as Tompkins improved to 10-11 overall and 2-4 in district with the win.

Seven Lakes was the team to jump out in front in the first inning, with Max Greathouse bringing in a run on a sacrifice fly, but Tompkins tied it in the bottom of the inning on a Nic Piazza RBI single. The Falcons took the lead in the fourth on a balk from Seven Lakes and Gavin Brewer added the teams third run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly. Simon didn’t allow another run the rest of the way to clinch the win.

Collin Mills started the game and went three innings for Seven Lakes, allowing two earned run on five hits while striking out three and walking one. The Spartans fell to 9-9-2 and 1-3 in district with the loss.

Paetow bounces back

Paetow got back in the win column on Tuesday, beating Jordan 5-3 in a game where they had four players with RBIs and a good day on the mound from Camden Phillips, who pitching six innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out seven and walking four. The Panthers improved to 16-4 overall and 5-1 in district with the win.

Paetow got in front in the top of the first inning, when Matthew Scott drove in a run on a fielders choice, and they scored two more in the second when Charlie Radley hit a 2-run double. Jordan came back with two runs in the fourth, Dante Mazzoccoli hit a single to bring in a run and Henry Surcouf drove in another on a single of his own. Hector Millan had the answer for Paetow in the fifth though, making it 4-2 on a double that drove in one. Paetow got a fifth run in the sixth inning when Maddox Prentice was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Jordan could only get one run back the rest of the way on a single from Luis Vera in the bottom of the seventh.

Sam Coraspe pitched 1.2 innings for Jordan and allowed two earned runs on four hits while walking three. Jordan fell to 10-7 and 3-1 in district after the loss.

Udland shuts out Mayde Creek

Connor Udland kept up his tremendous start to the season with a big performance on Tuesday, throwing a one hit shutout against Mayde Creek in a 6-0 win, striking out 13 and walking one. Udland also led the way at the plate, leading the team with two RBIs.

Katy got in front in the top of the second on a Jeremy Mazariegos sacrifice grounder. Katy added more in the fifth, getting a second on a Blake Davila sacrifice fly, two more on a Udland single and a fifth when Sutton Hull scored on a passed ball. Hull then drove in Katy’s sixth in the top of the seventh on a single of his own before Udland pitched a clean bottom of the seventh to seal the win.

Mayde Creek fell to 2-16-1 overall and 0-6 in district with the loss.
