Craig Allen Battle
Craig Allen Battle, a devoted husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Detroit, Michigan on December 6, 1957, to Sam A. Battle and Doris Patricia Keeler Battle, Craig spent his formative years in Plymouth before relocating to Texas in 1980 following a job transfer. A talented horticultural and landscape designer, Craig's passion for nature was evident in every aspect of his life.
On May 24, 1985, Craig married the love of his life, Linda Mae Streeter Geldersma, in Houston, Texas. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless projects that turned their house into a home. Craig’s ability to fix, improve, or build just about anything made him the go-to guy in the neighborhood for advice and help.
A true fan of the Houston Astros and the Texans, Craig rarely missed a game. He found relaxation and joy in listening to AM radio talk shows and spending evenings outside, grilling an array of foods on his beloved grill, proclaiming that if it fit on the grill, it was meant to be cooked.
Craig was a man of integrity and meticulousness, known for his loyalty and old-school values. He could often be found chatting over the fence with neighbors or sitting in his chair outside the garage, a testament to his open, welcoming nature.
Active in his church and community, Craig's faith and compassion touched many lives. His projects, from the greenhouse to the fishpond, were not just hobbies but reflections of his love for life and active engagement with the world around him.
Craig is survived by his wife of 38 years Linda Geldersma; their children, Steven Geldersma and his wife Renee, and Stewart Geldersma; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; his mother, Doris Patricia Van Vuren; siblings, Mark Battle and his wife Donna, Sharon Rice and her husband David, Michael Battle, and Katherine Battle and her husband Larry Cole; his faithful dog, Delta; and a community of friends and neighbors who were fortunate to know him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and creativity will continue to inspire those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by father, Sam A. Battle, grandparents, Sam and Rose Battle and Eugene and Corinne Keeler.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, in Memorial Lutheran Church where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. John F. Davis, Jr. officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CAP (Citizens for Animal Protection) at www.cap4pets.org, a cause close to Craig's heart.
