John “Larry” Mooneyhan
Larry Mooneyhan passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at St. Joan’s Care Home in Cypress, Texas at the age of 69 years.
Larry Mooneyhan was born on July 27, 1954 in Houston, Mississippi to John Edgar and Lois Elaine (Buchanan) Mooneyhan. He attended school in Pontotoc, Mississippi, graduating from Pontotoc High School in 1972. Larry worked in manufacturing most of his life.
He married the love of his life, Janie, in April 1982. Their life journey took them from Pontotoc and Tupelo, Mississippi to Conyers, Georgia then to their adopted hometown of Katy, Texas where they have resided for the past 25 years. Larry loved the Texas lifestyle and all that came with it. That included his cows, horses, gardening and many dogs. A master electrician and a talented handyman, Larry could fix almost anything. He was an excellent cook and loved seeing others enjoy the food he prepared.
The family would like to thank the staff at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston, the staff at St. Joan’s Care Home and Houston Hospice for the care and compassion given Larry during his illness. An extra special thank you to family friend Barbara Oswald who helped us through this difficult time.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 41 years, Janie Mooneyhan of Katy, Texas; three sisters, Betty Jenkins, Linda Bond and Brenda Seal and her husband Riley, all of Pontotoc, Mississippi; a brother, Jimmy Mooneyhan, his wife Jean and son, Jason and wife Jojo of Tupelo, Mississippi; he was a special and much-loved uncle to 6 nieces, 4 nephews, 8 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews; he will also be missed by his loyal canine companion, Max.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lois Mooneyhan; a brother, Tommy Mooneyhan; a sister, Perla Ferguson; 3 brother-in-laws, JR Ferguson, Mark Bond and Herbert Jenkins; niece, Rita Roye; great-niece, Connie Roye; and nephew, Dr. Nicky Ferguson.
