CORPUS CHRISTI – Johnnie Louis Reuther, 98, went home to be with the Lord on November 10, 2021, having lived a long and meaningful life.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Frances Rose (Drabek) Reuther. He is survived by his daughter Sandra Kaye and husband Bill Underbrink; his son, Robert Lee Reuther and wife, Lynda and his daughter, Shirley Ann and husband, Alan Trochta. Johnnie and Frances were blessed with seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandsons.
Johnnie was born to George and Frieda Reuther on October 2, 1923, in Burton, TX in Washington County. He was baptized on October 18, 1923, in Latiumi, TX and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wallis, TX by Reverend Robert Nerger. Raised in Wallis, Johnnie helped his parents on the farm and attended school where he was Captain of the football team and graduated in May 1942.
In October 1942, Johnnie joined the Navy serving in the South Pacific as a Naval Aviation specialist and was discharged in February 1946.
After the war, Johnnie went to work for Humble Oil and Refining Company (which later merged to become Exxon Company USA) where he worked as a Field Superintendent until his retirement on January 1, 1985. Johnnie and Frances enjoyed an active retirement volunteering at Katy Hospital, Katy Christian Ministries and other organizations and in 2006, they were recognized by the City of Katy as Senior Citizens of the Year. Johnnie also was a Life Member and in the Honor Guard of VFW Post 9182 in Katy and the American Legion Post 200 in Wallis, TX.
In 2012, Johnnie and Frances moved to The Mirador Senior Living in Corpus Christi. The family extends their gratitude to the Mirador staff who took such loving care of Johnnie and Frances in their last chapter of life. The family also wishes to thank all of Johnnie’s doctors,
Services will be held November 20, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 515 Cedar Street in Wallis, TX and coordinated by Knesek Funeral Home. Visitation is at 10 a.m. with the service beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 515 Cedar Street, Wallis, TX 77485 or the Wallis City Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are: David Alexander, Scott Underbrink, Mike Underbrink, Kenny Bearden, Christopher Baggett, Brandon Trochta, Reid Fisher, and Connor Bearden.
