Katy ISD had three players placed on the first team of the Class 6A Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association’s All State Team and 11 overall in a strong year for the district on the all state team.

Tompkins led the way for the district with five all-state picks while Katy had three named to the team and both Taylor and Morton Ranch placed two on the team.

Wyatt Young and Ashton Funk were placed on the first team for Tompkins. Young was the District 19-6A MVP this year after rushing for 936 yards and 11 touchdowns while passing for 524 more to go with six touchdowns through the air. Young was named to the first team as the all-purpose player while Funk, who helped the Falcons to a second place finish in district, was named as a tackle.

The two were joined on the first team by Morton Ranch’s Ryan Hall, who was named to the first team as a fullback. Hall had 1204 yards on the year to go with 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Katy’s Chase Johnsey was named third team all state as a fullback. Johnsey had 240 yards on the ground with six touchowns to go with 17 receptions for 212 yards and two touchowns on the year. Taylor’s Cyrus Reyes was also named to the third team after helping the Mustangs finish third in district and reach the playoffs during his senior season.

There were six more players from Katy ISD who were named honorable mentions. Tompkins had Caleb Blocker in the team as a running back while Rhys Phillips was named to it as a tight end and William Duncan earned honorable mention honors as a kicker. Ashton Coker gained the honorable mention honors for Taylor while Morton Ranch’s Dean Ford and Katy’s Adam Carter rounded out the team as linebacker and punter.

Willis quarterback DJ Lagway and DeSoto defensive lineman Keylan Abrams were named co-players of the year for Class 6A.
