Katy Medical Center has welcomed Dr. Yen-Phuong Bui, D.O., to its primary care team, the practice announced on October 6. Dr. Bui is a family medicine physician providing compassionate, comprehensive care for patients and their families.

She consults with patients in English and in Vietnamese. The vibrant Katy community, with its celebration of different cultures, drew Dr. Bui to the area, a spokesperson said.

Dr. Bui’s path to medicine was not a straight line. She graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and worked as a graphic designer before pursuing her medical career. She earned her medical degree from Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM, and completed her Family and Community Medicine Residency Program at the University of New Mexico.

As a Vietnamese refugee, Dr. Bui’s personal experiences with healthcare disparities shaped her commitment to compassionate, holistic, and equitable medical care. Family medicine lets her combine a passion for connecting with patients with evidence-based medicine, building meaningful relationships while helping improve health and prevent disease.

“Dr. Bui approaches care in a way that empowers patients to take ownership of their health, and she looks forward to caring for Katy families,” the spokesperson said.
