Katy-area firefighters and police officers answer calls for help around the clock. On Oct. 8, residents of Pegasus Landing of Katy answered back with goodie bags and handwritten notes of thanks.
The National Heroes’ Day service project put residents of the assisted living and memory care community at 1520 Katy Gap Road in Katy to work assembling appreciation bags and writing each card by hand for local firefighters and police officers.
“Our residents wanted to do something for the people who show up for Katy every day,” said Tyrice McLaren, Life Enrichment Director of Pegasus Landing of Katy. “Each card is written by hand, and they are taking their time with every one. Giving back does not stop at a certain age. Our residents are proof of that.”
The project is about more than just giving gifts, company officials said. It’s about creating meaningful connections, spreading kindness, and reminding the residents that they can continue to make a positive impact on the world around them.
“To our local firefighters and police officers: Thank you for your service, your sacrifices, and your commitment to keeping our community safe -- we appreciate you,” said a spokesperson for Pegasus Landing of Katy following the event. “At Pegasus Landing of Katy, we’re proud to celebrate the spirit of giving and the power of making a difference, one act of kindness at a time.”
