Softball Roundup: Katy, Taylor, Mayde Creek earn run rule wins, Cinco Ranch continues winning ways

Katy and Taylor both earned run rule wins on Tuesday to stay perfect in district, while Mayde Creek and Cinco Ranch earned wins as they try and keep pace in the playoff race early in district play.

Softball Roundup: Katy, Taylor, Mayde Creek earn run rule wins, Cinco Ranch continues winning ways

Katy and Taylor both earned run rule wins on Tuesday to stay perfect in district, while Mayde Creek and Cinco Ranch earned wins as they try and keep pace in the playoff race early in district play. 

Harrison, Soeken combine for perfect game

Cameryn Harrison and Lauren Soeken combined for a perfect game against Paetow on Tuesday, with both pitching two innings and the two combining for 10 strikeouts in the 16-0 shutout effort. Haley Gore was a force offensively in the game, driving in four runs and hitting two runs, while Harrison, Ella-Kate Smith and Maddie Smith also had home runs of their own. Katy improved to 20-1-1 with the win and 5-0 in district play.

Harrison got the scoring started in the top of the first inning, when she hit a single that drove in a run. Katy added to the lead in the second, adding runs on an Avery Porter triple and a Ashtyn Reichardt sacrifice fly before Harrison drove in two on a home run and Ella-Kate Smith hit another 2-run home run, with Brooke Fechner making it 9-0 on a double that brought in a run. 

Reichardt made it a double digit lead in the third inning with an RBI single and Gore followed that up with a 2-run home run, Maddie Smith drove in two more with a home run to cap off the inning. Gore hit her second 2-run home run of the day in the fourth inning to cap off the scoring and Paetow had a three up, three down bottom of the fourth to end the game.

Jiselle Lopez started on the mound for the Panthers and went one inning, allowing one earned run on two hits while walking one. Paetow fell to 11-11 on the season with the loss and 1-3 in district play.

Hughes throws no hitter in win over Morton Ranch

Ari Hughes was on her game Tuesday, leading Taylor to an 18-0 win over Morton Ranch by pitching a 3-inning no hitter in a run rule win. Hughes struck out eight of 10 batters and only walked one in the win, Taylor Gray led the way offensively with four RBIs while Kaelyn Lerma had three RBIs in the win as the Mustangs improved to 11-8 on the year and 4-0 in district play.

Bethany Fan got things started in the top of the first by driving in a run on a single and Sophia Ybanez drove in two with another single. Gray and Kenna Irvine both drove in runs with singles of their own to make it 5-0 after half an inning. 

Katelyn Wentzler drove in two on a home run to start off the second inning and Gray hit a 3-run home run before Izzy Allen got in on the action with an RBI single, as Taylor led 11-0 after two innings. Taylor kept adding on in the third inning, scoring seven more runs before not allowing anything from Morton Ranch in the bottom of the inning to end the game. 

Mackenzie Rimmer started the game on the mound for Morton Ranch and went the whole game, allowing 14 earned runs and walking one. The Mavericks fell to 5-9-1 with the loss with a district record of 0-4. 

Cinco Ranch offense heats up in win over Jordan

Cinco Ranch had a huge day at the plate on Tuesday, beating Jordan 26-9 behind a late offensive explosion and moving to 7-7 on the year and 4-1 in district play. Aubrey Ramirez led the way with a seven RBI day, including hitting two home runs, while Ossie Cooper had five RBIs and Madison Rosario had four. 

Cooper was the one to get things going in the top of the first, hitting a 2-run double for the first runs of the game and Ramirez followed that up with a 2-run home run. Jordan trimmed the lead to onein the bottom of the first, with Madeline Jovanovic hitting a double that drove in two run and then coming around to score on an error. 

Cinco kept things going in the second, getting two runs on an error, and added on in the third with Rosario drawing a bases loaded walk before Cooper hit an RBI single and Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly, putting Cinco Ranch up 9-3. Jordan kept fighting back and got a run back on a Madison Green single in the bottom of the third, but Faith Piper drove in two on a triple in the top of the fourth as the Cougars continued to pull away, with Elle Wallace adding on in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice grounder. 

Jordan again got a run back in the bottom of the fifth when Halle Brazan hit an RBI single, but Cinco Ranch scored 14 runs over the course of the final two innings and Jordan couldn’t get back into it despite scoring four runs in the sixth inning.

Ryan McIntosh started on the mound for Jordan and went four innings, allowing 10 earned runs on 10 hits while striking out six and walking seven. Brazen led the way offensively with three RBIs. Jordan fell to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in district with the loss. 

Mayde Creek run rules Seven Lakes

The Rams got back in the win column on Tuesday with a strong performance against Seven Lakes, beating the Spartans 15-5 behind big days at the plate from a number of the team. Julissa Aquino led the team with three RBIs while Madison Rodriguez had two RBIs. 

Seven Lakes got on the board in the top of the first when Kamryn Wallman tripled and drove in two runs and it stayed that way until the bottom of the second, when Aquino singled and tied the game by bringing home two runs. Seven Lakes came back and took the lead in the top of the third when Dulce Franco hit a 2-run home run. 

Mayde Creek got back into it in the bottom of the fourth, a run on an error made things a one run game and then Seven Lakes tied it on a passed ball. Aquino hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rams the lead and Mayde Creek drew three straight bases loaded, then two runs scored on two passed balls and Aneesa Ocanas hit a triple that drove in two before coming around to score on an error. 

Seven Lakes got one run back when Valeria Morales hit a sacrifice grounder, but that was all they could manage as Mayde Creek put things away with a sacrifice fly and a run on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth to clinch the win.
