Years ago, when he was in middle school, Rutva Gupta was part of several student groups that revolved around writing. Today, Gutpa is preparing for his senior year at Tompkins High School. He said he wanted to study either engineering or business, and he’s considering Rice University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Texas A&M University, among other colleges. more

Julia Morrison, a 2019 graduate of St. John XXIII College Preparatory School in Katy, is the 2023 recipient of the Lorena B. Stretch Award for Outstanding Student in Elementary Education from the Baylor School of Education. She is the daughter of Richard and Allyson Morrison of Sugar Land. The award is named for Lorena Stretch, who was dean of the School of Education from 1935-57 and the school’s longest-serving dean. more

The Texas A&M Foundation Board of Trustees honored three students, one of whom is from Katy, as recipients of the foundation’s highest student award, the Trustees’ Outstanding Student Award. These students, who have excelled academically and as student leaders, were honored during a luncheon on May 19. Each recipient received a cash prize of $3,200. more

When doors open for Katy ISD’s tenth high school in fall 2024, Gina Cobb will welcome students as their first-ever principal. Cobb, who closed out the 2022-23 school year as principal of Mayde Creek High School, will assume the principalship for the new campus this summer. more

Katy ISD announced two new assistant superintendents who will be replacing two long-time educators retiring from their roles. Kristin Harper and Deborah Hubble, well-known campus leaders in the Katy ISD community, will assume the positions July 1. Together Harper and Hubble bring with them a wealth of experience as well as a love for empowering students to reach their full potential. more
