VFW Post 9182 is hosting its third annual Warrior Ruck/Run on November 7 at 7 a.m. at No Label Brewing, 5351 E. First Street in Katy. The event will feature a 5K and 10K ruck as well as a 5K and 10K run and a one-mile fun run. There will be awards and prizes for the top three male and female finishers in each division, Participants will receive a race bib, T-shirt and medal.

“One of the things that makes this event unique is that a large number of our participants choose to ruck march the course while carrying nonperishable food items in their rucks,” said Ruben Arriaga, former post commander.

Participants are encouraged to load up their rucksacks with non-perishable food items to make weight. At the finish line, all of those food items are collected and donated to Katy Christian Ministries to help local families in need. For a list of requested items, go to https://ktcm.org/foodpantry.

“It’s a great combination of veterans, fitness, local businesses, and the community coming together around Veterans Day to support a local cause,” Arriaga said.

Toyota of Katy, one of the major sponsors. has supported the Warrior Ruck/Run for three years. Proceeds help support local veterans through the programs, outreach and services provided by VFW Post 9182.
